Samsung said to release foldable smartphones in 2016

Samsung showed off foldable display at CES 2014 but not for general public. Now a fresh

report from Business Korea is stating that the company is working on foldable smartphones

that are expected to release by next year.

There are four different stages in the evolution of flexible display technology and the

industry came to identify these steps as “curved”, “bent”, “foldable” and “rollable”. LG’s G

Flex 2 and Samsung’s curved edge displays, which can bend up and down and side to side,

are between the first and second stages. Samsung told the publication that “the

commercialization of foldable smartphones will be possible in 2016″. The IHS recently

released a report claiming that foldable tablets might hit the market by the end of this year.

LG on the other hand has been experimenting with transparent displays and told the

publication thatis completed and a promotional prototype is already available.
